A small family winery in Montilla Moriles
Hi, I’m Charo from Lagar La Primilla, a small wine producer. I am a fourth generation winemaker. Here at Lagar La Primilla we are dedicated to producing goods that originate from the Montilla and Moriles regions. I would like to invite you to come to Montilla or Moriles where it would be my pleasure to show you the vineyards and my small beautiful winery.

The video was recorded in Charo’s winery. In the video you can see the typical tinajas (earthenware jars nowadays supplanted by huge cement containers) where the winery ages their wines.
We make wines with character!
The predominant grape variety in all of our production is the Pedro Ximenez, the indisputable queen of Montilla. This variety is a very versatile grape through which we manage to extract the distinctive flavors of the land that we work. We don’t filter our wines in any way in order to accentuate the unique flavors of our grapes.
We are responsible for the processing of our wine at every step of the way and pay attention to the details, from the vineyard to the bottling, which is still done manually. In these Tinajas we produce young young white wine ( “vino de tinaja“ ) which will be used to fill the barrels to make fino (aging system “criadera y solera“) where the wine ages from 3 to 4 years as well as to fill American oak barrels to age wine that will become the delicious sweet Pedro Ximenez.
Fino La Primilla
The ageing system under a “veil of flor” where a floating yeast layer protects wine from oxygen, develops and transmits extraordinarily unique aromas makes it very sensitive to climatic variations.

The climate found in the area of Montilla-Moriles is generally classified as the semi-continental Mediterranean, with warm, dry, and long summers and short, relatively mild winters
Vino de Tinaja La Primilla
We produce young white, fino, and sweet Pedro Ximenez wines in addition to olive oil and vinegar.
Montilla Moriles, a treasure in the shadow of Jerez
The appellation of Montilla Moriles is located in the heart of Andalusia, 50 km south of Cordoba, north of Malaga, and between Seville and Granada. For tourists this is one of the lesser known areas and one of the most forgotten by many wine cultured Andalusians. However, we assure you that we are situated in an ideal location for production of high-quality wine.
The appellation of Montilla Moriles is located in the heart of Andalusia.
